This journal was a challenge for sure. I went through all my supplies and really didn't have any paper that fit the
theme so, I made some.
I started out by painting the binding using two different colors of blue craft paint. I then used some of my homemade sprays to color card stock with different blues for the water and then yellow, orange and red for the sky. I ripped them in strips and layered them to make the background.
The bottom strip I left white and stamped a edge of the water type scene.
1. I used a water color blue ink pad and rubbed it across the top of the piece of paper then used a water stamp in the same color to make the ripples of water.
2. Tim Holtz Tea Dye ink pad and a speckled stamp made the sand. I used the same ink and a long grass stamp on the left side.
3. I also have a short grass stamp and used that with a grassy green colored ink pad to stamp some contrasting grass colors.
4. Last, I stamped 2 different longer plant type stamps from a Tim Holtz set using brown Stazon ink on the left and right side of the scene to frame it a little.
I glued all the strips on and covered them with Mod Podge to protect it.
The next thing I did was make the frame that looks like a sign to put the picture in. This picture is the recipients view of the lake.
I used cracker boxes to cut both pieces out and painted them really messy with white paint. I wanted it to look like and old paint job. I stamped the name of the cottage on the sign.
I tied them together with hemp.
Tim Holtz Gears die. I was trying to make this look like a ships wheel. I used
some larger hemp for a journal closure.
I had so much fun making this journal and was glad to hear the recipient loved it. That's the best part!
Next on the agenda: Well, the triathlon journal is still lingering and oh man...so is my 365 day journaling project. I haven't completed January let alone started on February. I am going to try and get these wrapped up along with a project where I was asked to alter a sketch book with an organic feel. Very excited about this one.
More to come this week. Until them, have fun creating. I'd sure love to hear about what your making and working on this week.
