I decided to participate this year and luckily for me, I had most of the products I needed for the January tag. Check out his first post of the year and his January tag here.
This is my January tag:
My process and product improvisions:
I don't buy tags so I cut a tag using manilla card stock and embossed it using a gears folder. I don't have Tim's clock's and steam punk folder. The tag measures larger than the folder so I embossed it twice, turning the tag around the second time to get the bottom.
I inked with Tumbled Glass and Rusty Hinge. I used Walnut Stain around the edges after I distressed them a bit.
I do have his gears die so I cut those out of some recycled cardboard. If you don't have that die, you can trace out gears from a pattern and cut by hand. I also do not have his metallic distress stains so I painted them with some metallic paints. After I painted them, instead of sanding them, I stamped them with Archival Ink. I used one of his ticket like stamps with numbers on it to give it some more interest and texture.
I have his stamp set with the same sentiment on it but you can use any sentiment stamp you have. I stamped it with Archival Ink onto a smaller piece of the manilla card stock that was left over from cutting the base tag. I distressed the edges and inked with Walnut Stain. I received the clip in a RAK from someone. I forgot about this and was shocked when I found it. I was totally prepared to use a binder clip. I attached it to the larger tag with foam tape.
I do not have film strip ribbon but I do have his film strip stamp. I used Archival Ink and stamped it twice on some plastic packaging I saved and dug out of my recycle bin. I let it dry really well and cut it out. I attached this to the tag using mini glue dots along the edge.
I happen to have blue seam binding but if you don't have that, you can use white seam binding and die it or just some ribbon. I do not have a calendar stamp so I stamped it with the same stamp I used on the gears and then just used my mini alpha stamp set to stamp the word January on it. Worked out just fine. I used Archival Ink for the stamping.
I do not have an of Tim's gear and clock pieces so I went digging in the garage and found a couple things that looked gearish. I also had some spoke like plastic pieces I bought a long time ago at a scrap store. I used alcohol inks to color the pieces and used brads to attach them.
I didn't follow in the same order that Tim did and didn't have all the products but this worked for me and I really like how it turned out. Anyone else participating? I'd love to see your tags.
Thanks for stopping by the blog today. I'll be back later this week with a couple posts on some mixed media tags and junk mail tags I made. I guess I am in a tag making mood. See you next month with Tim's February tag!
